Janet's Notebook

Weekly Photo Challenge: Summer

Last year, we went for a walk on St. Catherine’s Hill near us with some friends and a few kids. It’s in Winchester, just 10 minutes’ drive from us.

It’s a rather steep chalk hill. When you’re at the top, you’ll see the spectacular views over the beautiful historic city, Winchester and the Itchen Valley.

St. Catherine’s Hill is an Iron Age Hill Fort of circular plan. It has a fun mizmaze and kids just love going round and round it and trying to escape. There’s a rather high tree swing too. We forgot all about the Health and Safety rules, and the kids were helping each other onto the wooden seat and then they push the swing up high, giggling and swinging in the breeze.

We had a picnic and good conversations.  We sat on the grass, only surrounded by wildlife and an azure sky.
