大罢工来势汹汹

下星期三的大罢工,来势汹汹。儿子小学的校长,今天已经来信通知:师长罢工,学校关门。

可是,‘罢工’ 两个字,说起来不好听,因此,校长在信里,说了一些漂亮话。

‘关闭学校一天不是一个轻率的决定。但是,教职员投票决定在 11 月 30 日这一天,采取合法的工业行动。

为了保障学子们的健康、安全、福利,学校将关闭一天。’ 

‘The decision to close the school is never taken lightly but in this instance, where staff have elected to take lawful industrial action and to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all pupils, Merdon will be closed on this day.”

今天,我在学校里,午饭时间,热情的工会代表,跑过来寒暄,鼓励大家一起罢工。他还说,如果没有加入工会,下星期三却罢工,雇主可以对付你。加入工会,罢工才属合法。

地方政府还有条规定,在罢工当天,如果你没去上班,除非你有充分的理由,不然,一概被视为参与罢工论。

(If you are absent from work on any day designated for industrial action, then you will be considered to be participating in the industrial action unless you have provided your Headteacher (or Chair of Governors, as appropriate) with a satisfactory alternative reason for your absence. )
