英国陪审员的法定年龄,是18到70岁。这些人,都是英国大街上随处可见的凡人。

英国的陪审员,是从选名册中随机挑选的。我来自前英属殖民地,属共和联邦成员,虽不是英国国民,却能投票。我和朋友开玩笑说,想不到,曾经给英国人殖民,就可以当陪审员,看来当殖民地子民还真有好处的。

儿子不太明白选民册。我说,就好像阎罗王手上那本生死簿一样,点到你的名字,就是你的命了,你就要去陪陪法官。这个解说真有点那个。

陪审员穿什么?规定是要穿着得体(dress appropriately):

‘It is suggested that you dress comfortably. You should as you will be sitting down for a long time. There is no strict dress code, but you should dress appropriately.’

‘没有严格的穿着规定,但是,你必须穿着得体。’不必衣冠笔挺。不必穿给别人看;自己觉得舒服就好了。法官看重的是陪审员的实质,不是外在美。不过,在电视上,经常看到所谓的被告,都是衣着整齐的,穿西装,打领带。很少看到鼠头蛇脸的被告。

法庭可以接受牛仔裤、皱巴巴的汗衫。我有一个问题,上教堂呢?上教堂,需要规定信徒都穿得很正式吗?为什么呢?有必要吗?

从明天开始,我也要穿牛仔裤出庭了。

  1. 可能陪审员穿得舒服了也有助于以平和的心态对待案件吧,要是被正装勒得半死,估计就得草草结案赶回家去换装了——我胡猜的~~
