辛劳的开始

妇人一月七日开始忙碌织线

一月七日,传统上是欧洲的Saint Distaff’s Day (或叫 Roc Day)。

Distaff 是手工纺织用的卷线杆,是昔日妇女作针线活的工具,用来形容妇女的家务事。

在圣诞的十二日之后,一月七日这一天,妇女就必须忙碌地织线,又开始了一年的辛劳。

对我而言,一月七日这一天,也是很特别的。老天下了一场大雪后,全国瘫痪,学校关闭,今天,我又‘赚’到了一天的假期。

人生苦短,英国向来也很少下雪,像这样‘赚’到‘雪假’的事,是鲜有的。

围困雪中,孰喜?孰忧?
